SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM

W. Gavin Marshall, Chief Executive Officer

Gavin Marshall is the CEO and founder of the Magenta group of companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Trent University and a Master of Business Administration degree, with a specialization in finance, from Queen’s University. After graduation, Gavin held progressively more senior positions with a number of Canadian financial institutions, primarily in the areas of credit and mortgage underwriting.

Gavin had successfully invested in mortgages for his own account for many years, prior to the establishment of Magenta. His personal investment in the Magenta MICs is currently $5.8 million.  Total employee equity is $6.8 million.

Kelly Evans, Chief Financial Officer

Kelly Evans joined Magenta in May 2012. She holds a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo and obtained the C.A. designation in 2003 (now CPA). After beginning her career with a major public accounting firm, Kelly has held progressively more senior positions with major corporations such as Biogen Idec Canada and Pepsico Beverages Canada.

Denise Buckley, Vice-President, Mortgage Operations

Denise Buckley joined the Magenta team in October 2011. She holds a B.A. (Hons.) from Trent University. Denise has previously been the Manager of the Wells Fargo branch in Ottawa and the Sales Manager for one of the principal mortgage brokerage firms in Ottawa. This experience has provided her with a thorough knowledge of Alt “A” and “B” mortgage underwriting methodology, the mortgage brokerage industry and Magenta’s primary lending market in Ottawa.

Connie Grant, Director of Marketing

Connie brings over 17 years of marketing experience to Magenta. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.  Prior to joining Magenta, Connie spent many years delivering end to end strategies to other small enterprises across a variety of industries.

CUSTOMER SERVICE & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Dan Pauls, Regional Sales Manager, Southwestern Ontario

Dan brings over 18 years of progressively more senior business development and relationship management experience.  Dan has held roles within both the A and B space, holding senior sales positions with such institutions as Wells Fargo Financial, Local Credit Unions and most recently the Manager of inside Sales at MCAP.  Dan acted as the primary contact for Business development officers and brokers alike.

Dan is principally responsible for directly marketing the Corporation’s lending program to mortgage brokers and financial institutions in Southwestern Ontario.

Michael Thibault, Regional Sales Manager, Eastern Ontario

Michael brings over 14 years of sales and relationship management experience and comes to Magenta from Livingston International, where he developed and generated new business opportunities while delivering on strategic account plans.  Prior to working for Livingston International, Michael held a multitude of roles with progressive responsibilities at Xerox Canada.

Michael is principally responsible for directly marketing the Corporation’s lending program to mortgage brokers and financial institutions in Eastern Ontario

Greg Delahunty, Regional Sales Manager, Gatineau Quebec

Greg brings 13 years of progressively more senior administration and underwriting experience.  Greg has spent the majority of his career administering and underwriting both non-conforming and conforming files, most notably for Alterna Savings and Wells Fargo.

Greg has held roles in credit assessment and adjudication, policy development and implementation and business development.

Greg is principally responsible for directly marketing the Corporation’s lending program to mortgage brokers and financial institutions in Gatineau Quebec.

MORTGAGE UNDERWRITING

Shannon Ferris, Senior Underwriter

Shannon brings 8 years of progressively more senior administration and underwriting experience.  A graduate of Algonquin’s Business Administration program and Seneca’s Financial Services Underwriting post graduate program, Shannon has spent the majority of her career to date administering and underwriting non-conforming and conforming files, most notably for Wells Fargo.  She has also worked for TD and Investors Group in similar roles.

As an Underwriter, Shannon makes credit adjudication decisions on a breadth of newly originated mortgages.

Greg Delahunty, Underwriter

Melissa Prevost, Underwriter

Melissa Prevost is an accredited Law Clerk specializing in real estate and mortgage law. She joined Magenta in July 2011 after a 10 year career as a legal clerk.

Dianne Ferrier, Manager, Mortgage Renewals

Dianne Ferrier holds a B.A. from York University having joined Magenta in December 2008 after a 16 year career with TD Canada Trust in Toronto. Dianne was a Senior Credit Analyst with TD responsible for restructuring and approving exceptions to the Bank’s electronic retail credit underwriting platform.

Dianne is responsible for the oversight of a team managing maturities, assessing these mortgages on the basis of updated application information (current Credit Report, income and employment information, home improvements) and repayment history, making renewal/demand decisions and pricing, structuring and issuing renewal agreements.

Matthew Primeau, Renewal Specialist

Matthew Primeau joined the Magenta team in September 2013.  He holds a B. A. (Hons.) from Queen’s University and a Master’s in Library and Information Studies from McGill University, specializing in Records Management and Archival Studies.  He is responsible for the administration of the mortgage renewal process working closely with the Manager, Mortgage Renewals.  Matthew assesses maturing mortgages on the basis of updated application information and repayment history, recommends renewal pricing and finally, issues the renewal agreements.  He is also the point of contact for issues and queries relating to property insurance and supports the mortgage administration function, helping with the payout and discharge of our mortgages.

Wendy Horne, Renewal Specialist

Wendy Horne holds a B.A. (Hons.) degree from Carleton University and is an accredited Law Clerk and Commissioner of Oaths. Prior to joining Magenta in February 2008 she was a Contracts Specialist with Corel Corporation and a Contracts Administrator with Labarge Weinstein LLP in Ottawa.

She is responsible for the administration of the mortgage renewal process working closely with the Manager, Mortgage Renewals.  Wendy assesses maturing mortgages on the basis of updated application information and repayment history, recommends renewal pricing and finally, issues the renewal agreements.

Sarah Logan, Office Administrator

Sarah Logan joined the Magenta team in July 2016, bringing with her over seven years of administrative experience. Sarah currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Briercrest College.

Sarah is your first point of contact at Magenta, she oversees mortgage applications and general company inquiries. If she can’t help you, she will be sure to put you in touch with someone who can.

MORTGAGE ADMINISTRATION

Margo Pratt, Manager, Mortgage Administration

Margo Pratt joined Magenta in June 2002 having previously held positions of progressively more senior responsibility with a number of large financial institutions. Margo oversees all facets of mortgage administration with specific responsibility for post-closing administration and default management.

 

 

Brandy Thompson, Default & Enforcement Specialist

Brandy Thompson is an accredited Law Clerk with a specialization in civil litigation.  She joined Magenta in September 2010 after a 10 year career as a legal clerk.  Brandy splits her time between escalated default management and funding new mortgage advances.

In her capacity as Default and Enforcement Specialist Brandy is responsible for all aspects of escalated default management  up to and including initiating power of sale proceedings to ensure collection of non-performing loans.  Brandy utilizes her significant legal background in liaising with our external counsel and regulatory authorities to realize upon security, or make appropriate repayment arrangements with out borrowers.

Brandy acts as the delegate to the Manager, Mortgage Administration during any absences.

As a Sr. Funding Specialist, Brandy is responsible for assisting the Mortgage Funding team during peak periods as well as regularly handling complex new files.

Zeina Alieh , Default Specialist

Zeina Alieh has experience in banking and collections.  Zeina holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University and a certificate in mutual funds.  She is fluent in French and Arabic.

MORTGAGE FUNDING

Erin Crain, Funding Specialist & Supervisor

Erin Crain is an accredited Law Clerk specializing in real estate, mortgage and estate law. She joined Magenta in June 2013 after a 15 year career as a legal clerk.

Erin has primary responsibility for closing new mortgage advances.  This function has two components:

(i) Interfacing with mortgage brokers to ensure complete satisfaction of all underwriting related conditions in the mortgage commitment issued by our underwriters.  This entails obtaining all required documentation including appraisals; agreements of purchase and sale, income and employment verification etc.

(ii)Instructing and interfacing with the mortgagor’s solicitor to complete the funding of the mortgage.

Erin is also responsible for training new funding specialists and managing the workflow of the funding team.

Amanda Chalifour, Funding Specialist

Amanda joined Magenta in June 2015. Amanda brings excellent experience to the role having worked previously as a real estate assistant in the McIntyre Law Office.  In this role, she gained extensive experience working on a wide variety of real estate transactions.  Amanda holds a Law Clerk diploma from Algonquin College.

Amanda is primarily responsible for closing new mortgage advances.  This function has two components:

(i) Interfacing with mortgage brokers to ensure complete satisfaction of all underwriting related conditions in the mortgage commitment issued by our underwriters.  This entails obtaining all required documentation including appraisals, agreements of purchase and sale, income and employment verification etc.

(ii) Instructing and interfacing with the mortgagor’s solicitor to complete the funding of the mortgage

Rabbia Jawaid, Funding Specialist

Rabbia Joined Magenta in August 2016. She has a great deal of experience for her new role having worked as a Mortgage Officer for Olympia Trust Company. As a Funding Specialist, her primary responsibility is to close new mortgage advances.

This function has two components:

(i) Interfacing with mortgage brokers to ensure complete satisfaction of all underwriting related conditions in the mortgage commitment issued by our underwriters.  This entails obtaining all required documentation including appraisals, agreements of purchase and sale, income and employment verification etc.

(ii) Instructing and interfacing with the mortgagor’s solicitor to complete the funding of the mortgage.

Sarah Cullen-Ware, Funding Specialist

Sarah Joined Magenta in August 2016. She is a registered mortgage agent who has worked for DLC The Mortgage Source for the last 2 and a half years.  As a Funding Specialist, her primary responsibility is to close new mortgage advances.

This function has two components:

(i) Interfacing with mortgage brokers to ensure complete satisfaction of all underwriting related conditions in the mortgage commitment issued by our underwriters.  This entails obtaining all required documentation including appraisals, agreements of purchase and sale, income and employment verification etc.

(ii) Instructing and interfacing with the mortgagor’s solicitor to complete the funding of the mortgage.

Sabrina Rousseau, Funding Specialist

Sabrina holds her Mortgage Broker and Mortgage Agent licence as well as a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa.  She also has 20 years’ experience in providing excellent customer service in a variety of different industries and is fluently bilingual.

ACCOUNTING

Jennifer Cavanagh, Manager, Corporate Accounting

Jennifer Cavanagh joined Magenta in January 2013.  Jennifer brings a wealth of bookkeeping and accounting experience gained through roles in both private small businesses and in accounting practices.

Jennifer provides accounting support for our financial close process, accounts payable and manages our collections process.

Oksana Gorelova, Controller

Oksana Gorelova holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Mount Saint Vincent University and joined Magenta in June 2016. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the team in the capacity of small business operations planning and financial analysis that she has gained from previous roles at accounting firms and small companies.

Oksana is responsible for all areas of the accounting and financial reporting functions, including providing analysis and recommendations on Magenta’s internal controls and processes.

Anne-Marie Nixon, Financial Analyst

Anne-Marie Nixon joined Magenta in January 2009. She has significant bookkeeping and office management experience gained primarily from working in family owned and operated businesses. Anne-Marie supports all areas of the accounting function, and also assists mortgage operations in preparing discharge statements and administering the payment of property tax for the portfolio of mortgages.

Hong Vo, Accounts Payable Administrator

Hong holds a Business Administration Diploma from Algonquin College and has held different roles with increasing responsibility, giving her experience in the accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.

Shirley Lac, Accounting Technician

Shirley is responsible for administering mortgage payments and transactions. She is a graduate of Carleton University and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in Accounting.

INVESTOR RELATIONS

Isabelle Anderson, Manager, Investor Relations

Isabelle joined Magenta in September 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the School of Management at the University of Ottawa. She is fluently bilingual.

Isabelle interfaces with prospective investors and shareholders providing the full range of administrative and communications support ensuring strict compliance with OSC rules and regulations. In this capacity she supports the efforts of Gavin Marshall in sourcing new investors and optimizing investor relations. Isabelle is also fully cross-trained in all areas of mortgage administration and can support that function as needed.
